The fundamental responsibility of elected office is to provide 100 percent accountability for how your money is spent. I developed this belief through my service on a City Council and City Finance Committee in Massachusetts, where I saw firsthand what happens when government spending lacks transparency and accountability. Millions of dollars in grants entered our city and were distributed, but too often, these funds disappeared with no record of how the money was spent or who benefited. The most vulnerable people in the community were left behind, and nothing improved on the ground. This experience gave me a deep understanding of how mismanagement of public money can impact real people.

In addition to my experience in office, I have a broad range of business experience, including running my own business for 15 years. In my current job with an international manufacturing firm in Manchester, I am the point person for company financial audits and handle all financial duties. I am the only candidate for Vermont State Auditor with this level of experience and a proven commitment to local communities.

So I come to you genuinely determined to ensure your funds are used according to best practices and common moral sense. As the State Auditor, I will oversee regular, independent audits of state agencies and programs and publish easy-to-understand reports for the public. Best practices in spending, accounting, and following State and Federal law are fundamental to the best outcome, and deviations will be addressed and tracked.

The office of the State Auditor should never function as a political body. My commitment is to keep this office nonpartisan and objective at all times and focus on the facts and interests of Vermonters.
